When I initially discussed about getting a skydiving license with my parents in 2018, I was 19, they responded with shock, mostly about its inherent risks.
To address their concerns, I conducted thorough research into modern skydiving safety standards. My findings revealed significant technological advancements that have transformed skydiving into one of the most secure extreme sports available. The integration of computer-controlled automatic reserve parachutes provides crucial redundancy in safety systems. The data speaks volumes - with only 0.75 fatalities per 100,000 jumps in 2017, the statistical risk is remarkably low. Presented with this compelling safety record and understanding of the sport's appeal, my parents shifted from hesitation to active support, ultimately endorsing my skydiving expedition to Hawaii, and around the world as I grew older.
The parallels between skydiving and my work in investment are striking. Both domains demand sophisticated risk assessment, requiring practitioners to balance potential rewards against calculated risks. Success in either field hinges on thorough analysis and the capacity to make informed decisions in dynamic environments. Whether evaluating an investment opportunity or preparing for a jump, the fundamental principles of risk management remain remarkably consistent.
I've done more than a hundred jumps. Each freefall represents, in essence, an investment decision - betting with my life, and as you can see I'm still active here on LinkedIn, it's a bet I've won every time so far.
